I took a few photos of the children next door to me and used the burn tool in Photoshop to create the bruises on them. I wanted the designs to be simple, but send a strong message. I found a few statistics on the internet and used them to add emphasis. I took the picture of the teddy bear as a symbol of neglect as it looks like it's been discarded.
I chose to change the backgrounds to greyscale also to add emphasis that these children's lives are bleak and sad.
I chose a font that looks a bit childish as a way of portraying the kids reaching out for help.
Design elements and principals present in this design are:
Tone: The different tones of the bruises on their skin
Texture: There are many different textures in this design. These include the grass, the leaves behind them, the fur of their teddy bears, their hair, the concrete. Also the wood that the bear is laying on in the smaller postcard.
Colour: As i said before i made the backgrounds grayscale to empahsise the main focal point of the design which are the 2 boys and the abandoned teddy bear.
Figure-ground: The Boys and the teddy bear deffinately dominate in these images.
Balance: The boys and the teddy are placed exactly in the middle of each design as they are the focal point as i said before.
Heierarchy: The images are more dominant over the text. This is because even without the text you would still understand what the design is about.

fabulous sample. Great contrast in greyscale to colour. Child in centre show symmetry ... his eyes do fall along rule of thirds thinking. you have analysed this very well in terms of tone, colour, hierarchy, balance, figure-ground. Well done. Would you make any improvements?
I can think of one that I'd try out and that is the font choice - particularly the leading space between letters. Widen it a smiodge for legibilitiy/redability.
Good posting.
